Description
The Australian army in WWI fought in New Guinea and later on the Continent. On one of the British Antiques Roadshow an expert on the war stated that the Australian troops played a critical role in the conflicts and without them the war could have been prolonged or even lost. This original oil painting on board is not signed, and perhaps one would have to determine the conflict area one must judge by the hills. Australia indeed had machine gun corps, and the Aussie army was instrumental in bringing down the German army. I suspect that this painting, not done by an amateur, was completed by someone who was intimate with the Australian involvement, or based his/her painting on an existing image...though this is so dynamic I bet it was largely devised by the artist. The board measures about 20 1/4" x 13 14/16, with an original Mission style frame that measures about 24"x18". The painting is in fine condition, still easy to view though never having been cleaned. The dark wood frame has had a stain rubbed into the grain for a pleasant effect. Check out my EBAY STORE.Visit my Ebay store for more items, both auction and Buy It Now..
