Vintage 1950's SOOTY BEAR Hand Puppet Chad Valley Toys Made in England based on the Popular Children's Television Show Characters Mohair Bear Toy. Sooty Bear Glove Hand Puppet Show was popular in the mid 50's on the BBC Network created by Harry Corbett. Sooty had pals Sweep and Soo along with their human handler. The show was titled "The Sooty Show" and originally ran from 1955 to 1967.
This collectible plush Sooty Bear Glove Hand Puppet is made of orange mohair with pretty plastic eyes, felt nose, thick thread mouth and brown felt pads on his paws. His head is stuffed most likely with straw and has a hole for one or two child size fingers. Sooty has the sweetest face with an adorable expression! Puppet measures about 9" tall. He is in VERY EXCELLENT condition with no discernable hair loss. He has his original Chad Valley Toys England tag still firmly sewn into his back seam. Sooty has a light vintage smell, which is common for vintage/antique plush toys. He could be aired out, if desired. Sooty is being sold as a collectible and not for child play, due to his age and most likely not meeting today's toy safety standards.
