This system features 3 custom made
    Avvid Thermalloy
    heatsinks
    which
are coated with Ceramic on their top (This is the same material used to coat the space shuttle to protect it from the heat of the atmosphere) This provides flaking, and peeling protection for up to 1500 degrees!!
The next component included is an industrial Sanyo 60mm x38mm fan 48v fan.
This fan puts out 60 Cubic Feet a Minute in a tiny 60mm frame at 10,000RPM!
This is as much air volume as an 80mm fan, but takes up less internal enclosure space.
The package is completed with a two input terminal block which makes removal of your G540 as easy as unscrewing two screws
    .
The last most critical component included is a
thermal switch that is normally in Normally Closed position, but will open killing the main power to the power supply if the G540 hits 60c +/-  5c
These are the same units used in most major appliances that protect them in the event of overheating.
    Switch ratings are listed below:
    Maximum voltage : 250V.
    Maximum current : 5A.
    Active temperature : 60±5℃, Reset temperature : 40±10℃.
    Length : Appr.100mm
Let me paint you a picture of how easy they are to install.
Simply split the lead to the L (Live) input on the power supply from the AC side of power cord input. Solder this unit between the ends completing the circuit. Make sure the lead from your thermal switch is long enough to allow it to be mounted where you intend to read temperature. It's ultimately up to the end user.
(I myself would use thermal epoxy, and mount it on the very top of your heatsinks reason being is that if the top of the heatsinks hit 60c then the base is definetly MUCH hotter)
These switches will then kill the AC power if they detect the temperature of the area mounted to is at the switches limit. The best part is once the switch's temperature drops to 40c +/10c it automatically resets back into Normally Closed position allowing the power to flow to the power supply preventing any possible damage to the G540.
Lets be honest you just spent hours, and at the very least hundreds on your CNC controller. This  investment protects it the correct way from overheating in your enclosure. A small price to pay for piece of mind.
This is simply the correct way to cool your Gecko G540, or any of your Gecko Drives for that matter. The heatsinks increase the surface area of the G540 while the fan evacuates the heat from your enclosure, while the thermal switch is simply the ultimate failsafe.
The Gecko can and typically will get up to 200 degrees in an enclosed environment, and that's counting for ambient temperature surrounding the unit. The picture of the stats are
    PER heatsink
, and you have a total of 3 to cover the Gecko for ample protection.
Please take a moment an read Geckos heatsink experiment.
    http://www.geckodrive.com/g540-heatsinking
This experiment reflects that the unit needs to be cooled with a fan, however a fan simply circulating hot ambient hair is inefficient at reducing the units interior controller temperature. You must create more surface area on the Gecko's structure. This same principle is utilized on a computers cpu. Cpu's require a heatsink to be used to increase the surface area of the chip to make the unit operate at a safe temperature.
These heatsinks are the best made, and to top it off they don't interfere with the terminal block, and should be attached to the Gecko with thermal epoxy .
Beware of vendors telling buyers to use thermal tape as the Gecko gets to hot for it to be effective in an enclosed chassis. The devils in the details. Read the Gecko experiment again, and pay attention to how they attached the heatsink to the G540. Did they use Thermal tape?? Thermal tape is ineffective at temperatures in excess of 150 degrees. Buyer beware!!
Look at my motion control systems in my store. I use Arctic Silver thermal epoxy to attach the heatsinks. Why?? Because that's how there effective at the G540's temperature utilizing a chemical bond.
